About Project

Dreamz Institute is India's leading design & architecture coaching Institute students preparing to join India premiere fashion and design colleges. However, the current website is outdated and does not interact well with the users. I revamped the whole website by introducing a new information architecture, user flow, and brand guidelines.

"Our website is 15 years old and very few people could use it, especially on mobile. We are unable to generate leads to run the business."

-  Dreamz Director

Process

My first step was to identify the business goal, customers and possible problems with the stakeholders. Then, I did a research on the website and users to gain more insights. After having the needed information, I iterated on 3 rounds of design and finally delivered the project.

Design Process

User Research

Usability Test of Current Design

To find major issues of the current design, I ran an unmoderated usability test with 7 participants using Lookback. I chose this method since the participants lived far away and they were busy people. The unmoderated test gave them the freedom of where and when to participate.

These are the findings from a series of 6 tasks I created:

  • 100% of participants could not enroll in the dreams institute

  • The photo gallery is hard to navigate

  • Incomplete courses information

  • Content and functionality are not logically classified and group.

User survey

I also conducted a user survey with 2 main groups of users:  Current users (current parents, teachers, volunteers) and new users (prospective parents and students).

30 people responded, giving me a clearer sense of their top needs when visiting an institute website

.

- For users who are currently involved with the school

  • Course Availablity

  • Registration Status

  • Institute's calendar and upcoming activities

  • Photos from class activities

  • Results Availability

- For new users

  • Classes and curriculum

  • Enrolling information

  • Photos from class activities

PROBLEM 1

Homepage only shows upcoming events

The list of upcoming events takes up space of the whole homepage.

PROBLEM 2

Enrolling process is not convenient

Current information on enrollment only shows a month before the first registration dates. After the registration time ends, this information will be hidden in the activities section. With the current flow, new students/parents who look into dreamz institute's website may be confused about the process and forget to follow up with the institute for the next batch or sessions.

PROBLEM 3

Photo Gallery does not group photos well

Currently, the photos are organized based on activity types (school activities, campings & picnics, community activities, Youtube gallery). However, usability test participants indicated that they would prefer to find photos based on year. Moreover, with the current design, users will have to click on and view photos one by one.

Research Insights - Design canvas
